Dina Gilio-Whitaker, a Colville Confederated Tribes descendant, will speak on “Equity for Indigenous Americans” in a virtual program offered Saturday offered to the public by the Del Mar-Leucadia Branch of the American Association of University Women. Grauer School offers four-year scholarship
The Grauer School, an independent college preparatory school, invites students with core values of compassion, resourcefulness and leadership, as well as financial need, to apply for a full, four-year scholarship. To be considered, students must live in North County and be entering high school in Fall 2022. Applicants must complete the admissions and financial aid applications, which are available by contacting Financial Aid Director Tricia Valeski at [email protected].. Applications must be submitted by Feb. 1, 2022, and the scholarship will be awarded in mid-March. Recipients will be required to maintain a 3.5 grade point average and, like all Grauer students, complete at least 50 hours of community service before graduation. The scholarship is valued at about $28,000 per year for four years. A student laptop will be provided if necessary. Foundation offers grant opportunities
The Oceanside Community Foundation, an affiliate of The San Diego Foundation, recently announced the availability of grant funding for academic development programs for K-12 students in Oceanside. In the 2022-2023 grant cycle, the foundation invites local schools and organizations to submit project proposals that show a strong mission to support students’ academic and social enrichment and help them recover from the pandemic. These projects should be culturally sensitive, practical and achievable within a 12-month time frame, and have prospects for long-term sustainability. The funding ranges from $5,000 to $25,000. District hosts COVID-19 vaccinations
Universidad Popular, San Diego County and the San Marcos Unified School District will be providing free Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccinations from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at San Marcos Elementary School, 1 Tiger Way, in the multi-purpose room. Free patriotic concert on Thursday
The Valley Center/Pauma Music Boosters present a free Veterans Day patriotic concert at 1 p.m. Thursday at Valley Center High School’s football stadium. This concert is an annual tradition and features the award-winning Valley Center Middle and High School Jazz Bands, Choirs, Concert Band and Marching Band in a salute to the armed forces. The Armed Forces tribute during the finale recognizes members of the audience who have served in the military, who are asked to stand and be recognized during the playing of their branch’s anthem. Service members are encouraged to wear their uniforms and be recognized for their service. The school’s Music Boosters will be selling BBQ lunches and snacks starting at noon, with all proceeds supporting the students. The Music Boosters help buy and maintain hundreds of instruments for the award-winning VC bands. Any student can participate in the program with no charge for instruments or uniforms. The Boosters’ annual fundraising also covers transportation and costs for competitions not only for the bands and choirs, but also for the color guard, winter guard, marching band field show and drum line.
