“Dearly Beloved” by Jones Hope Wooten is a Texas rural wedding comedy soon to open at Carlsbad Community Theatre.
The theater is located at 4713 National Parks Hwy, SW of Jct. Boyd.
Play times will be Fridays and Saturdays, Oct. 29 and Oct. 30, Nov. 5 and Nov. 6. Sunday matinees will be 2 p.m. on Oct. 31 and Nov. 7.
Director LaWanda Scholl plays Honey Raye Futrelle, eldest of three sisters, with Frankie and Twink played by Pam Cox and Shawna Frederick. Fertile Frankie with husband Dub Duberly played by Dave Kump have twin daughters Gina Jo and Tina Jo, both played by new actress Elizabeth Ray.
A missing bride and groom may disappoint assembled wedding guests while eleven actors seek to stall for time. Bashful twin Gina Jo pines for potential romance with a UPS delivery man and aspiring clergyman Justin Waverly played by young Ethan Frederick. Villainous mother-of-the-groom Patsy Price and fortune teller Madame Nelda Lou Lightfoot, both played by Barbara Hodgson, opine on pre-nuptial bustle.
Fashionable florist and wedding planner Geneva Musgrave is played by vivacious Dianne Joop. Wiley Hicks played by Bobby Reid has begun to toast wedding festivities early. He intermittently celebrates and sleeps off his premature joy.
As Raynerd Chisum, crowd pleaser Matthew Fletcher dresses snappy and speaks his mind.
Deputy Sheriff John Curtis Butner keeps the peace, played by veteran actor Zeph Roberson (also the comedy’s assistant director). Stage manager Jocelyn Ray cues cast entrances from behind scenes.
While the comedy’s dialogue is hardly bawdy, gossip on grownup issues will be enjoyed best by mature audiences.
Playgoers may buy tickets for six showings at Blue House, Angee’s Flowers, Treasured Moments, from any cast member or at the box office prior to showtime.
Season tickets will be honored.
